I'm here on behalf of :iconselftaughtartist: because your piece was in the group's critique requested folder.

How fortuitous to come across a piece which reflects my emotional state so aptly!

I'm not normally a fan of mixed media, (especially sketches on top of photographic scenery), but it works here. The field with the long grass, and barbed wire, seems like the right setting for this character.

What makes this image so interesting, is that the figure is not immediately definable in terms of pop culture. There are elements of hippie, grunge, emo and goth, but none of these encapsulates the figure's true identity. Its archetypal, instead of stereotypical. Mysterious, and yet familiar.

I also like that the figure's gender is not totally obvious. The bare chest makes one assume it's a boy, but some of the details of the face and headgear make one think of a girl. I don't think it's necessary to define which though.

My favourite detail is the bandaid across the throat. One immediately wants to read into it, as though one were reading a Tarot card, or interpreting a dream, but I think it's best left as is. I know that mood, but I could never describe it to anyone, not even my best friend.

Hmmm criticisms. Not really, I might be curious to see the figure with a background in the same medium as the figure, but only because I'm a stickler for consistent textures, and styles. The background does actually fit.

Fabulous piece.
